Trade beads - White Heart/Cornaline d’Aleppo strands
24” strand of 8/0 Cornaline d’Aleppo trade beads, otherwise known as “white hearts.” These Venetian beads were produced in the 19th century and were a staple of the HBC trade across the Northern territories. They found in many Nation’s pieces of heritage jewellery, from the Prairies, to the Plateaus, and to the Northwest Coast. To this day they are a treasure to craftspeople who are inspired by this work.
They are a rare example of a bead design that continues to be produced, though not to the same quality of these. It’s rare to find them at this size, and would be a perfect addition to layers of dentallium earrings, strung onto necklaces, or even tacked down in a larger piece of beadwork.
